Minimising Our Impact - Earth Day 2022

Happy Earth Day.
We love any excuse to thank our home planet for everything it gives us as surfers.

So, what do surfboards have to do with reforestation? Often nothing and now, for A Mano, everything. We believe the first step towards sustainability is acknowledging the problem, so we can work out a solution. It’s no secret that everything we consume has an impact on the health of the planet, and surfboards are no different. The climate crisis is the most critical crisis to ongoing life on this planet, and the number one culprit is CO2 emissions. So what can we do about it?

One board, five trees

We’ve partnered with One Tree Planted so that every time you buy an A Mano surfboard, you plant 5 trees. The mangrove trees are planted in vulnerable coastal ecosystems and each tree sequesters an average of 1500Kg of carbon over its lifespan. We’re not going to claim this is the solution to all of our problems, but it is a start.

Trees help clean the air we breathe and filter harmful pollutants out of the atmosphere while providing habitat to over 80% of the world's terrestrial biodiversity. As well as planting five trees, your A Mano surfboard also funds employment for local communities as well as rejuvenating their surrounding ecosystems.

Covering all boards sold to date

We thought that the best way to initiate our ongoing tree-planting commitment would be to start by planting some native rainforest trees right here in our backyard, literally. Alongside local non for profit Resforest Now, we planted one tree for every board we have built to date. We will continue to watch this native forest flourish from the window of our shaping bay, and you can see it for yourself when you come by to pick up your next board.

Thanks to everyone who has helped us plant trees so far.
